Who is Ash’s father? Why doesn’t he contact his son/wife? Will he ever appear in the franchise? Is he dead or alive? How do we even know Ash has a father and people are telling truth about him? Why the hell doesn’t Ash grow up? These are some mysteries associated with Pokemon. We know that Ash will discuss his deadbeat father for the first time in the history of this franchise. Here are some of the most famous theories regarding the true identity of this little Pokemon trainer’s father:

1.       Is it a god?

Is it possible for Ash to be the son of some god? We’ve seen stories where the main protagonist is the offspring of a powerful deity with hidden powers & untapped potential. Percy Jackson is an example who turns out to be the son of the Greek god Poseidon. But are there gods in the Pokemon universe? The franchise tells us that Arceus is the creator of the entire Pokemon world. Overall, some 10+ gods exist in this world. Maybe Ash’s mother bore a son to one of these mighty beings.

2.       Is it Giovanni?

One theory states that Giovanni is Ash’s father and he’s leading a double life. There’s some strength to this argument. But we also have evidence against this fan theory. The hypothesis states that Giovanni deliberately sends Team Rocket to try stealing Pikachu and fail. He’s furtively teaching his son to become a Pokemon trainer. You can find a lengthy post on Reddit regarding this fan theory.  If this hypothesis is true then Ash may have an evil father figure whom he must defeat in the end.

3.       Is it Professor Oak?

Professor Oak seems more like Brock’s father than Ash’s. Oak is certainly a father figure to our little Pokemon trainer. It’s also probable that he’s with Ash’s mother too since her husband is “on the run” to “catch ‘em all”. However, it’s highly unlikely that Oak’s Ash’s biological father. It’s speculated that Ash’s dad had died in the Pokemon War. We know that Gary is Oak’s grandson. If Ash were also the Professor’s offspring, he would've got Oak’s surname. Do you want Ash to be illegitimate now?

4.       Is it a pokemon?

Can Ash be the son of a pokemon? Well, this theory will lead us to the forbidden world of hentai. So, we won’t speculate if a pokemon is capable of impregnating a female human. But, for instance, if Ditto can turn into a man, he can probably have a child with a woman. Some argue that Pikachu is Ash’s father. But we already got a movie out of this theory (Detective Pikachu). So, I’m not in favor of that cute little yellow thing being Ash’s biological father. Let’s move on to the last speculation.

5.       It is Ash (see: Predestination)?

The last theory makes Ash a human-pokemon hybrid. But this one makes him a time-traveler. If we allow Ash the ability to travel between different dimensions (the multiverse), it also explains how Ash doesn’t seem to age at all. Sounds a bit like Dr. Who, doesn’t it? Possibly, Ash went back in time, impregnated a woman, then disappeared to another dimension, leaving that woman with his newborn. But this theory has many flaws so we have to discard it before it kills our brain cells.

Ash’s mother told Ash that her husband was a Pokemon trainer on a solitary journey. This is all we officially know about our main protagonist’s male parent. Not only his father but Ash’s grandfather also shared the same occupation, the official version states. Anybody who turns 10 needed to become a Pokemon trainer in Ash’s town, the boy was told. Whoever Ash’s dad is, he’s just a fragment of some Japanese author’s imagination. We don’t need to concern ourselves more about him.
