5 Misconceptions About Jesus Christ

5 Misconceptions About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ, the central figure in the Christian religion, is doubtlessly the most influential and a widely-respected figure in the human history. His faith is adhered to by approximately three billion human beings. Sadly enough, we don't know much about his life. All that we can gather about his history is from the four Gospels that were written down after his death. But there are still some obscurities about his life and teachings that give rise to such misconceptions as discussed below.

1) He Was Born On December, 25:

Was Jesus born on 25th of December? His date of birth is as controversial as the year of his appearance. Researches are now sure that he wasn't born on 12/25/1 BC. His birth year can be taken back to 3 or 4 BC. His birthday never fell on 25th of December rather that was the birthday of a Roman deity Apollo, the son of their mightiest god Jupiter. So some Christians thought why not celebrate the birth of their lord on the same day and look friendly to new Roman converts. That's how we got Christmas on December 25, folks!

2) He Married Mary Magdalene:

I found this picture on this blog
Did he marry Mary Magdalene? Mary was one of the few women who believed in Jesus, just like there were few men who were chosen to serve as his disciples. Mary was close to him but Jesus didn't seem to care much about that kind of stuff and Mary is only shown to be his lover in the Apocrypha. There is even a Gospel attributed to her according to which she was the "beloved disciple" of John. And I can guess what some of you Dan Brown fans are thinking. No, Jesus and Mary Magdalene never had a girl who made Mary get known as the Holy Grail, who was hunted feverishly by the Church but saved by a secret organization and whose final descendant finally met Robert Langdon, as Da Vinci Code says.

3) He Invented The Church:

Just click this picture, if you don't mind
Did Jesus invent Christianity? I'm not saying that Jesus had nothing to do with Christianity. Of course, he had much to do with it - he is the man whose teachings have influenced the entire religion - but not everything. What I mean by Christianity is the Church. Not Jesus but Paul is the real maker of the Church we have today. It was Paul who wrote down most of the New Testament. It was Paul who made Christianity a separate religion from Judaism because Christ's first followers believed they were still Jews. It wasn't Paul though who compiled the first canon. It was Marcion. Go and search for him on Google and you will be shocked. Again, it weren't Jesus or Paul who defeated Arianism at the Council of Nicaea in the fourth century; Anaximander did that. Simply enough, the form of Christianity we have today, came into being gradually after Jesus escaped this planet.

4) He Was Vegetarian:

Was Jesus a vegan? I don't know what you guys think but I'm sick of these people always trying to show non-vegans in a very bad light. They even portray Christ as a vegan when he certainly wasn't nor he ever promoted such an idea. He was a Jew and Jews eat meat. It's a part of their religious rituals to sacrifice animals in the Temple. So how can Jesus be a vegan?

5) He Was Caucasian:

Forensic experts changed the way how people used to imagine Jesus
Was Jesus white? He wasn't Caucasian. He lived in Middle East. His skin shouldn't be white. He was also short because people did lack in size those days. It only didn't seem to them that they were short because it was the way everybody looked like. A white and tall Jesus was the picture modern world likes, just like some guys like to see a "Black Jesus". Know what I mean? Google it, right now. I'm just glad they kept beard and mustache untouched on his face. Sometimes I wonder how the hell Tarzan isn't shown with a beard because he could never possibly have gotten his hands on a razor blade!
